Building a Tiny House

So I'm taking up the Tiny Living Challenge. The rules and original thread can be found here and in a link in my Tiny Living Challenge tab above.

This is a unique challenge as you are only allowed to live in a 5x5 space room with minimum of one item from each furnishing category. I've actually been interested in Tiny Living things in real life so this challenge should be fun!

Building the House!

Arranging the items in this was actually difficult because man 5x5 is really small! Thank goodness for Wall mounted TVs that can go above things :) After everything inside and out I was only left with $2 so I will be updating as I get more money!

Finally here are our founders!

Chapter 2 - First Friend

The next few months seemed to go by too quickly for Kamilahs liking without much progress to her main goal. However she did have progress in other aspects of her life that were going to help the process she was sure!

For weeks after Nature had left Kami roamed around the surrounding areas near her tree searching for bits of plants she could take back and begin to grow. Early mornings seemed to be her favorite time for gathering as everything was quiet and she could enjoy the fresh air and nature in all its glory.

She found a few small things, carrots and herbs mostly which she immediately planted in order to get a food source going since hunger seemed to be a big issue for her now. She was a bit weary of the carrots she had found at first but it had to do until her own carrots from her garden could grow. Soon though she even had a couple lemon and cherry trees!

Some stones that she dug up had some hidden treasures inside such as fossils and gems which she figured may help out later on.

She had even liberated a small frog that had gotten stuck in an abandoned well, the poor thing!

At first Kami wasn’t sure she wanted to leave her tree alone and would spend all day tending to her new plants making up the excuse that she needed to give them extra attention. The last time she had been outside of her tree this area had been lush and some of her sisters had been here and now suddenly everything was gone, it scared her a little. What if she left and when she came back her tree was gone?

It had taken several days for her to get over that thought and mustering up as much courage as she could, after all she had to get herself out there sometime, she finally left her tree and began to explore the town a bit more. The first thing she noticed was there weren't very many people around, not like she remembered anyway. She could see people, mostly kids, sitting in their houses in front of the televisions as she passed by and she peered up at the brilliant blue sky and felt the warmth of the sun on her skin and wondered why they weren't outside.

As Kami passed by businesses in town she could feel people staring at her as they looked out the windows. She wasn't sure what it was though she knew that her human guise was very convincing of being one of them so wasn't sure what was bringing their attention to her. Not watching where she was going she nearly ran into a dark haired man right outside of the gym. "Oh, hi there," he said with a smile and Kami laughed lightly as she stepped back, "Sorry! I was lost in thought!" she said quickly tucking a bit of hair behind her ear.

The man gave her a strange look for a moment as he glanced down then back up, "Are you okay?" he asked and Kami tilted her head slightly finally able to confront someone giving her that look she had been getting all day. "Of course, why? Do I look not okay?" she questioned glancing down at her attire and smoothing her hands over her shirt.

"Ah, no you look... f..fantastic," he said with a catch in his voice but then he pointed down quickly changing the topic, "You don't have on any shoes," he blurted out rapidly then blinked looking up at her lifting a hand up as if surprised by his own outburst.

Kami burst out into giggles, "Oh! Is that why everyone is looking at me?" She asked and smiled at him brightly. "I just .. well, I don't usually walk around on the sidewalks." She said honestly glancing up at him, "I like being as close to nature as I can be when I am home and I guess I just forget not everyone doesn't like shoes." He nodded in an understanding fashion which surprised Kami, "Ah, so you are with the barefoot movement? Well good on you. I'm Cohen by the way," he said finally introducing himself. "Kami," she replied back with a smile.

Cohen questioned about her being new to the neighborhood and after finding out she was offered to show her around some of the different places. The gym had been where they had met of course and he motioned towards the library but told her that not many people went there anymore unless it was to use the computers. He then took her past the local restaurant and bar and then one of his favorite places the museum.

It wasn't long after the tour that Kami realized how late it was getting and so she thanked Cohen for the tour and said her goodbyes. She realized how sad she was to actually part from him, the first nice person she had met, but she missed her home and she was sure she would see him again around the town.

Cohen surprised her a few days later by stopping by unexpectedly and the look on his face as he stood on the lot with just her tree, a pond, and her small garden worried Kami for a moment before he excitedly began to talk about his love of the outdoors. Surprised, Kami felt as if she had a lot more in common with him as they talked for what seemed like hours about gardening and fishing and hiking. He was charming and easy to talk to and since Nature had left over a month ago it was the first time she truly didn't feel lonely. "So you don't have a house on here yet?" he questioned and she shook her head. "Is that .. strange?" she asked not sure if the humans were finding her odd which could hinder her finding potential mates in the future. "Ah, well, it's not the norm for sure. Where do you sleep?" he questioned and she pointed to a bit of grass near the base of her tree. He ran a hand over the back of his head as he scoped out the surroundings and then he changed the topic to something else quickly.

The conversation turned a bit serious for Kami though as Cohen let out that many people didn't share her love for nature and being outside like he did. Kami was saddened and shocked as he talked about how most people stayed indoors and watched television or worked long hours and couldn't do many things outside, children also didn't play outside any more but played on their computers and gaming systems all day. He had moved here a few months ago and had been surprised at the lack of outdoor activities that he loved. She felt curious now, was this why everything had died? Why her sisters were now gone?

Chapter 1 - Kamilah

The fantasy world is well known in books and movies but are all creatures just a story? Do people who are not quite human truly exist? For some the answer is a resounding yes, but for others, well sometimes they get to live the tale.

A tall woman moved across the rough cracked ground feeling every crevice and stone beneath her bare feet. The land around her was dying, she could feel it, save for the one spot before her.

She gazed ahead at the small oasis that sat defiantly amid the parched ground and the scorching sun and as she stepped onto the last of the grass that was being pushed back by the desert ground small bits of flowers began to spring up at her feet. A small pool of water was the only thing keeping the large tree before her alive now but slowly and surely that source was drying up as well and she just knew that soon the tree would be next and all life in this area would cease to be.

“What will I do with you,” she said in a sad tone as her brown gaze drifted up into the flowery branches. At one time this had been the center of a town, a large park filled with life from plants to animals but the people had begun to forget about nature while using more and more technology every day. The humans had let the oasis dry up until nothing would grow on its own any longer but this wasn't happening just here, all around the world this was going on. Nature wasn't the only thing that was being affected by this though more so than the flowers and trees one group dwindled so severely that only one remained in the world. The woman tilted her head as she stared up at the large tree and smiled before moving closer and placing her hand on the trunk. Closing her eyes she called out a name so softly that it merely sounded like the wind and the flowers of the tree began to rustle.

Within moments a noise of bare feet landing on grass sounded as if someone had jumped from the branches above her and the woman tilted her head leaning sideways to peer around the tree trunk just as a pair of brilliant green eyes did the same from the other side. A surprised look came over the green eyed woman as she moved around the tree carefully looking around. “Mother?” she questioned as she approached the other woman.

The brown eyed beauty took the young woman in her arms hugging her, “Hello Kamilah, my sweet little tree nymph.” Kamilah pulled away from her mother, Nature, and her eyes widened as she noticed the parched land that was once completely different. “What ..?” she questioned looking to Nature and the woman gave her a sad smile. “Many things have changed while you were asleep dear one. Your sisters... are gone, and you are the last of your kind here.” Kamilah let out a soft gasp as her eyes filled with tears, though she had been asleep for many years it had felt like only yesterday when she had last been in the human world with her sister dryads helping the world around them to sprout and grow. “Why  ... why did you wake me?” she asked as the tears slipped down her tanned cheeks. “My dear Kamilah,” Nature said as she cupped the girls’ cheeks, “You must be the one that brings the dryads back into this land or your kind will cease to be.”

Kamilah stood beneath her tree for a long time after Nature had left contemplating what she had been told. Darkness began to fall and the cold night air caused her now human flesh to pebble. Her sisters were… gone. Kamilah felt her chest clench at the thought and she shook her head to clear her mind that she was alone. For them she was doing this, for them she would keep her kind alive and she would live on. That was the main duty that Nature had bestowed upon her, bringing one hundred Dryad children into the world.

One Hundred. The number had frightened Kamilah when she first heard it and she wasn't sure that it had really come out of Natures mouth, “One hundred?!” she exclaimed looking at Nature as if she had gone crazy.

Nodding Nature tried to calm her down, “This is a lot to take in Kami, I know, and I know I keep putting more and more onto you but look at how long you have lasted,” she stated gesturing towards the flourishing tree amid the nearly barren landscape. “You are strong and one hundred may seem like a lot but in order for you to do this, it will take a sacrifice on your part. I know you will be able to do this.” Kami looked to her tree standing so strong and she placed a hand upon its bark taking in some strength before looking back to Nature, “What happens after all of the children are born?” Nature smiled knowing that the young woman would do well with her challenge despite how hard It may seem to her.

Although Kami tried to ask as many questions as she could Nature did not have much time to be with her and explain everything and she was starting to look a bit irritated which Kami knew not to bring out Mother Natures wrath. She did let her know some vital information about how dryad children worked though such as only one dryad could be born from one human ever. Mostly dryads were female, as Kami knew, but occasionally a male dryad or Satyr was born and she was told that may happen as well. As a dryad the time from getting pregnant to birth would be significantly shorter than normal human time and so having many children wouldn't be a problem. She had also told her that there would be other things that would happen but Kamilah would have to take those in stride as Natures time in her human guise had come to an end.

Kami shook her head, watching Nature disappear had been agonizing as she realized she was truly alone in this world now, it was so much to process that she didn't quite know what to do.

She turned back to her tree and leaned against it as darkness surrounded her completely now and like a comforting embrace she felt the warmth of the tree flow through her connection to it and she fell asleep mentally exhausted.

Rules & Family

Rules
I'll be making up my own rules for this! I'm doing this more for the story than the actual challenge but will still put limits on it.

  • Dryads are usually just female but I will be randomly rolling a d10 dice to see if boy is born as Satyr (male dryad) and getting a 10 will make that happen (10% chance).
  • One girl child per father. If a boy is born may use that father again until a girl is born unless that boy is rolled as Satyr.
  • May not move in any of the fathers.
  • Girl children must age all the way up before being moved out (will be more to it through story). Boys will be moved in with their fathers upon becoming children (story will explain more) unless Satyr then same rules apply for girls.
  • Dryads do not age like humans so mother will be taking aging potion if needed.
  • Dryad and Satyr children will always have the Love the Outdoors trait. Ambition & rest of traits will be random.

Meet Kamilah Dryad. A tree nymph who has learned that she is the last of her kind and must bring others like her into the world. She loves the outdoors, quite the given, is a bit romantic from her time watching the humans interact with each other, and is very family-orientated.
